About the brakes of your important car!
Hello everyone!
This is Maria FREIJEIRO from Gulliver store in Nishinomiya, Hyogo prefecture.
How are you all doing?
This time, we will introduce the abnormal noise of the brakes and the time to replace the brake pads! !!
Brake pad replacement time is strongly influenced by "brake pad manufacturer" and "how to run"! !!
Therefore, it is not possible to set a clear standard for brake pad replacement, but there are three general confirmation methods and guidelines: "thickness", "sound", and "mileage"!
・ How to check when to replace the brake pads Check by thickness
New brake pads vary depending on the manufacturer, but most are about 10mm!
If the thickness of this brake pad becomes 2 to 3 mm or less, it will be a guide for replacement.
■ If it is 5 mm or less, if the mileage exceeds 20,000 km before the next inspection / vehicle inspection, please consider replacing it!
■ If it is 3 to 2 mm or less, it will be a guide for replacement time!
■ If it is less than 1mm, it may damage the disc brake and lead to a serious accident, so it needs to be replaced immediately!
・ How to check when to replace the brake pads Check by sound
Brake pads have a feature called a pad wear indicator (pad sensor) that tells you that your brakes are worn out!
It will be an important part that will sharpen you and tell you the danger! !!
There are two types of padwear indicators, mechanical and electric.
In the case of the mechanical type, a piece of metal attached to the brake pad touches the rotor and makes a strange noise on purpose.
When it becomes an electric type, the brake warning lamp of the instrument panel lights up when the electric wire attached to the brake pad is broken!
Domestic cars are mainly mechanical, and many of some luxury domestic and imported cars are electric!
If you hear a "key" noise from the tires of a domestic car, it is a guide for replacing the brake pads!
・ How to check when to replace the brake pads Check by mileage
You can also check the brake pad replacement guideline from the mileage!
It is generally said that brake pads wear down 1mm after traveling 10,000km, which is why
For ordinary cars, mileage: 30,000-40,000 km 4 mm
When it comes to mini vehicles, the mileage: 40,000 to 50,000 km 5 mm
There is a possibility that the thickness of the brake pad is 5 mm or less as a guide! !!
If you simply calculate the wear of 1 mm at 10,000 km, it will not be less than 5 mm, but if the brake pads are worn out
It's easier to have heat, and brake pads with heat are more likely to wear out! !!
It does not mean that you have to replace it, but based on the mileage,
It is very important to check how much it is exhausted! !!
・ What if you are not satisfied with the replacement of the brake pads?
Even if the thickness of the brake pads is 5 mm or more, there are rare cases where it is said that "there is little brake pad left, so it is better to replace it"! !!
There are various factors that cause the wear of brake pads, etc., and it is not possible to set a standard! !!
For example, even if the remaining thickness is 7 mm, people who have a long mileage before the next inspection or vehicle inspection or who are running aggressively on a regular basis
Is advised to replace the brake pads.
In some cases, we recommend comprehensive replacement based on "brake pad thickness," "mileage and driving style," and "time until the next inspection / vehicle inspection." !! !!
